Need To Remove Mold? 3 Ways To Do It Right

Blog

If you have an infestation of mold in your home or place of business, it is essential to know how to deal with it properly. Mold is stubborn and is not going to want to go away on its own, which is why you need to know how to handle it to ensure that it goes away and stays away.

#1: Always Protect Yourself

When dealing with mold, you are always going to want to protect yourself first. Mold spores cannot be seen by the naked eye, which is why you are going to want to take extra steps to protect yourself.

You will want to wear a breathing mask with a filter that is specifically designed to keep mold spores away. You are going to want to wear protective eye gear. You should also protect your body and hands, covering everything up.

You want to be on the defensive with mold, as it is not suitable for your overall health, so you want to limit exposure.

#2: Figure Out Where the Moisture Is Coming From

Mold doesn't thrive in a dry environment. For mold to succeed, it needs access to moisture. Before you start to clean up your mold problem, you need to figure out where the moisture is coming from. You need to not only clean up the mold but stop the source of moisture to ensure that the mold doesn't come back again. Find the moisture and make a plan to deal with that as well so that the mold problem will really be gone when you clean it up.

#3: Figure Out How Extensive the Damage Is

Next, you will want to figure out how extensive the damage is to your home or business. Is the mold all concentrated in a small area? Has it spread behind a wall? Is it covering up a lot of square footage of space? You want to know how extensive the infestation is, as that will impact the clean-up process.

If the damage is extensive, you will need to go through more work setting up tarps and containing the area as you clean it than if the mold is contained to a very small area. A larger area will also require more trash bags and possibly a dumpster to remove the contaminated items.

Don't feel like taking this on by yourself? Luckily, you don't have to. You can work with a professional mold remediation service. They will come in and ensure that the mold is cleaned up properly, leaving you with a safe work environment.
